Joey and Egypt have been matched since November of 2020. Egypt is 8 years old and attends Dayton Smart Elementary. She lives at home with her mom (Exie) and her two younger brothers, one of which is currently waiting for his Big Brother in our program. Egypt is in the program in hopes of having a Big who is able to be another positive voice in her life and help guide her down the right path.
Since being matched, this match has been faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and have had to adjust how they built their relationship. Throughout the time that they were matched, most of their outings have been virtual. Together they have virtually had movie nights, house tours, played man games, and read together. The match had one in-person outing before transitioning to virtual outings where they were able to spend part of the day at Young’s Dairy, and Joey was able to support Egypt through some uneasiness while feeding the goats.
A large reason why this match has been able to build such a strong relationship virtually is because of the fluid communication between Joey and Exie. They stay in contact, planning outings, and just touching based when needed. Exie is always sure to communicate goals she has for the match and some academics that she would like for Joey and Egypt to talk about as well. It has been great to be able to see this match grow over the past few months, even with the additional challenge of being virtual. We are excited to see their relationship grow even stronger and deepen in the years to come!
